Workplace Discrimination Cases On The Rise

Newly released figures show, discrimination claims against bosses dramatically climbed by about a third last year.

Nearly half of all workplace cases are race-related while complaints about age discrimination have more than doubled.

Overall, 85 percent of complaints made to the tribunal last year were workplace related, according to Melanie Pine, director of The Equality Tribune.

“The employment cases coming into the tribunal are widely varied, covering many aspects of working life from start to finish,” she said. “Many of these are complicated and involve several issues and usually more than one person.”

The Equality Tribunal is the impartial forum to hear or mediate complaints of alleged discrimination under equality legislation. It is independent and quasi-judicial and its decisions and mediated settlements are legally binding.
