Castleberry has expanded the recall to include foods for both humans and pets. The initial recall was for hot dog chili found in Texas and Indiana. The expanded recall includes 4 pet food brands, the the problems in production were found about two moths ago AP.

Cans were coming out of a heating process too hot to be sent into a cooling area, an epidemiologist with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told the AP. The company temporarily stopped production to make sure that the cans hadn't expanded, which could have fostered contamination, said the CDC expert, Ezra Barzilay.

Botulism is fatal in about 8 percent of cases, it causes muscle paralysis and can hospitalize victims for months.
