Senseo One-Cup Coffeemakers Recalled

Philips Consumer Lifestyle, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled Philps Senseo One-Cup Coffeemakers due to a burn hazard to consumers.

According to the CPSC, an electrical fault and the build-up of calcium from hard or medium water can cause an block in the coffeemaker. Should this happen, the boiler can burst, posing a burn hazard.

To date, there have been no reports of injury in the U.S. Although the 17 incidents have been reported in Europe - six of which involved minor personal injury and first degree burns to the arms, hands and abdomen.

The recalled coffeemakers sold at Safeway, Target and Wal-Mart, involve the Senseo one-cup coffeemakers with model number HD 7810, HD 7811, HD 7815, HD 7820, HD 7832, and HD 7890. Coffeemakers made in China have date codes 0727 through 0847; coffeemakers made in Poland have date codes 0627 through 0847.

Consumers are advised to stop using the products and contact the company directly for instructions on how to receive a free replacement.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the coffeemakers and contact Philips for instructions on receiving a free replacement unit.
