A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when he crashed his motorcycle on West Third Street at Ardmore Avenue.

Third Street –in both directions - was shut down for several hours following the accident. The man, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened when the motorcyclist tried to pass a car at the intersection of Ardmore and Third, but he struck the front bumper of the other vehicle. He was thrown from his bike and into an RTA pole – the bike burst into flames, investigators said.

According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was speeding and not wearing a helmet. The second driver will not be cited.
