Four Injured In Dayton Car Accident

Four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Dayton on Wednesday at the intersection of Huffman Avenue and Fifth Street.

Three women were inside the vehicle. One woman was ejected in the crash, one had to be extracted from the vehicle and the third managed to make it out on her own.

The driver of the Chevy Camaro suffered minor injuries. All four were transported to a local area hospital.

It appears a man driving a van ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into the Camaro, investigators said.

Two of the three women suffered serious injuries but they are believed to be non-life-threatening, according to emergency personnel.

The driver of the van will likely be cited for a traffic violation. At this time, there is no indication of alcohol or drug use, said Sgt. Donald Burden.

The investigation is ongoing.

CPSC Votes In Favor of Mandatory ROV Standards

The CPSC recently voted in favor of mandatory rules to regulate Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs), in an effort to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries nationwide. The vehicles are blamed for more than 100 deaths since 2003, the agency said.

This is the beginning of a process that could take months, maybe even years.

ROV makers contend the vehicles are safe.

“When used responsibly, these vehicles are safe,” the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association said in a statement. In March, Yamaha Corp. recalled 100,000 of its Rhino off-highway ROVs for repairs after two models were linked to 46 deaths over a six year period. In many cases, the riders were not wearing seatbelts, the CPSC said. Additionally, in a number of cases, rollovers happened on level ground at relatively slow speeds.

The two-passenger, four-wheeled vehicles -- also referred to as side-by-sides -- have been on the market since the late 1990s. They've been blamed for at least 150 serious injuries, including crushing injuries to the legs, feet and arms and several amputations.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Chrissie Cole

Three Sent To Hospital After Car Accident In Dayton

Three people were sent to Miami Valley Hospital Friday morning after two vehicles collided in the intersection of Jefferson and Patterson streets.

As rain poured on fire rescue crews, they used heavy equipment to extract the driver of a minivan. All three were taken to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Officials suspect the driver of the minivan or the driver of Saab sedan ran a traffic light, according to a fire official.

Boy Struck & Killed By Unlicensed Driver

A 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by an unlicensed driver on Saturday while riding his bicycle.

The boy, whose identity has not been released, was riding his bike when a Buick with two men tried to pass a vehicle on the wrong side of the street at a high rate of speed.

He was dragged 35 feet – and died instantly, said Lt. Brian Johns of the Dayton Police Department.

The men driving the car left the scene but returned shortly thereafter. According to Johns, the driver was unlicensed and on probation for gun crimes. He will be charged in the boy’s death, but his name has not yet been released. At this time officials are unsure if the passenger will be charged.

The car belonged to the driver’s girlfriend, who Johns said was in custody and will be charged with the crime of allowing an unlicensed driver to drive her vehicle, though she was not involved in the accident.

Crews Work To Remove Debris From Road Following Truck Accident

An Ohio Department of Transportation ODOT driver suffered injuries in a truck accident on northbound Ohio 4 Friday morning, according to Dayton police.

The road was closed from 8:15 a.m. to just after 10:30 a.m.

The ODOT pickup truck was traveling slowly along the shoulder of the highway when a second truck loaded with concrete blocks ran into the rear of ODOT truck, the officer said.

The impact of the crash knocked the blocks onto the highway, forcing police to shut down those lanes on Ohio 4 until the debris could be removed.

The trapped ODOT worker was freed by rescue workers within 30 minutes following the crash and the driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Car Accident In Dayton Caused By Overcrowding

Too many people were occupying a vehicle that caused the driver to run off the road in a car accident Thursday morning, according to Dayton police.

It appears there were six people in the five-passenger vehicle at the time of the crash which happened on Route 4 in Dayton.

“The vehicle was overcrowded from what we can tell right now, the third person fell onto the driver as she was attempting to exit Route 4 and she couldn’t steer the vehicle. So it appears the apparent cause of the crash was the overcrowding,” said Sgt. Clarence West.

No one was seriously injured; all injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.

The passengers of the vehicle said they were driving home from a bar. Police are investigating whether the driver was impaired. The investigation is ongoing. #
Rollover Accident Injures One

A one-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 near the Benchwood Road exit is being investigated by the Ohio State Patrol, according to a Dayton post dispatcher.

The accident occurred on February 9, just after 11:50 a.m. One vehicle came to rest in the far-left lane of northbound Interstate 75 on it's top.

An ambulance transported one person to Grandview Hospital as a precautionary measure for non-life threatening injuries, according to an Englewood dispatcher.

The accident caused minor traffic delays on the highway, but three lanes remained open and allowed vehicles to pass through shortly after the ambulance left the scene.

No further information is available at this time as Ohio State troopers investigate the cause of the crash.
