A 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by an unlicensed driver on Saturday while riding his bicycle.

The boy, whose identity has not been released, was riding his bike when a Buick with two men tried to pass a vehicle on the wrong side of the street at a high rate of speed.

He was dragged 35 feet – and died instantly, said Lt. Brian Johns of the Dayton Police Department.

The men driving the car left the scene but returned shortly thereafter. According to Johns, the driver was unlicensed and on probation for gun crimes. He will be charged in the boy’s death, but his name has not yet been released. At this time officials are unsure if the passenger will be charged.

The car belonged to the driver’s girlfriend, who Johns said was in custody and will be charged with the crime of allowing an unlicensed driver to drive her vehicle, though she was not involved in the accident.
