Seventeen Kids Injured In School Bus Crash In Lebanon

Seventeen children were sent to Ohio hospitals on Tuesday after two school buses collided at a red light.

The accident happened in Lebanon, just 25 miles south of Dayton. Four buses, filled with eight-graders, were traveling to a vocational school when the accident occurred, according to Valerie Browning Superintendent.

One of the students says she was aboard the first bus when it was struck from behind, shattering the rear window.

Most of the injured students complained of shoulder and neck pain. Two girls were immobilized by paramedics using a back and neck brace. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Last week, a vehicle crashed into a school bus sending both drivers to the hospital. The crash occurred near the intersection of Cincinnati-Daytona and Hamilton-Mason roads according to officials. One student ws riding on the bus at the time of the accident and was not injured,

P&G Recalls Sinex Nasal Spray

Three lots -- about 120,000 bottles -- of Vicks Sinex nasal spray has been voluntarily recalled by Proctor & Gamble in three countries after bacteria B. cepacia was detected during routine testing.

While there have been no reports of illness, the bacteria can cause serious infections for those individuals with a compromised immune system or chronic lung condition, said P&G in a news release. However, in healthy people, the risk is relatively low.

Consumers should contact P&G for a refund or replacement coupon.

Four Injured In Dayton Car Accident

Four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Dayton on Wednesday at the intersection of Huffman Avenue and Fifth Street.

Three women were inside the vehicle. One woman was ejected in the crash, one had to be extracted from the vehicle and the third managed to make it out on her own.

The driver of the Chevy Camaro suffered minor injuries. All four were transported to a local area hospital.

It appears a man driving a van ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into the Camaro, investigators said.

Two of the three women suffered serious injuries but they are believed to be non-life-threatening, according to emergency personnel.

The driver of the van will likely be cited for a traffic violation. At this time, there is no indication of alcohol or drug use, said Sgt. Donald Burden.

The investigation is ongoing.

Fall 2009 Newbury Travel Mugs manufactured by Pow Can, have been recalled in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), because they can become too hot to the touch when filled with hot liquid, posing a burn hazard.

To this date, the company has been notified of three reports of the mugs becoming excessively hot, including one complaint of a minor hand burn.

The recall involves Newbury Travel Mugs sold in blue, green and orange with a navy blue lid. The Life is Good trademark is printed on the mug.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled mugs. And to contact the company for a credit or gift certificate equal to the amount of the original purchase.

Flour Tortillas Recalled By Pop's Bakery

Pop’s Bakery, of Texas, announced a voluntary recall of all flour tortillas because they contain undeclared whey (milk). People who have an allergy to whey run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if these products are unknowingly consumed.

To this date, there have been no illnesses associated with the recall.

CPSC Votes In Favor of Mandatory ROV Standards

The CPSC recently voted in favor of mandatory rules to regulate Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs), in an effort to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries nationwide. The vehicles are blamed for more than 100 deaths since 2003, the agency said.

This is the beginning of a process that could take months, maybe even years.

ROV makers contend the vehicles are safe.

“When used responsibly, these vehicles are safe,” the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association said in a statement. In March, Yamaha Corp. recalled 100,000 of its Rhino off-highway ROVs for repairs after two models were linked to 46 deaths over a six year period. In many cases, the riders were not wearing seatbelts, the CPSC said. Additionally, in a number of cases, rollovers happened on level ground at relatively slow speeds.

The two-passenger, four-wheeled vehicles -- also referred to as side-by-sides -- have been on the market since the late 1990s. They've been blamed for at least 150 serious injuries, including crushing injuries to the legs, feet and arms and several amputations.

Three Sent To Hospital After Car Accident In Dayton

Three people were sent to Miami Valley Hospital Friday morning after two vehicles collided in the intersection of Jefferson and Patterson streets.

As rain poured on fire rescue crews, they used heavy equipment to extract the driver of a minivan. All three were taken to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Officials suspect the driver of the minivan or the driver of Saab sedan ran a traffic light, according to a fire official.

Wireless Light Switches Recalled By Idea Village

More than 1.3 million Handy Switch, Wireless Light Switches have been recalled by Idea Village Products Corp. because the receiver, which fits into the outlet, can overheat posing a fire hazard.

To this date, there have been 14 reports of overheating, including nine reports of fire and five reports of minor property damage, such as damaged bedding, curtains or walls.

The recalled Handy Switch is model number KS-080. They were sold at mass merchandisers nationwide and through TV infomercials from March 2007 through July 2009.

Consumers should visit the IdeaVillage Web site and fill out a form to initiate a free replacement. In the meantime the product should not be used.

Certain Tylenol Liquid Products Recalled

Johnson & Johnson’s McNeil unit is voluntarily recalling 57 lots of Children’s Liquid Tylenol Products because they may have bacterial contamination.

According to the company, one of the inactive ingredients tested positive for Burkholderia cepacia or B. cepacia. However none of the bacteria was found in the finished product. The likelihood of a serious medical event is minimal, but after consulting with the FDA, the company agreed to recall the products.

The recalled brands include Children’s Tylenol Suspension 4 ounce Strawberry, Children’s Tylenol Pediatric Suspension 1 ounce Cherry, and Infant’s Tylenol Suspension Drops ½ ounce Grape.

Elderly Driver Crashes Into State Highway Patrol Car

A driver, 76, is in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital after hitting a State highway Patrol cruiser Thursday night.

Officer Kyle Pohlabel’s cruiser was stopped at a construction zone on I-75 when David Catlett struck his cruiser at a high rate of speed.

The officer was in the far left lane with his overhead warning lights on and flashing, blocking off a lane as construction workers did overnight work, according to state Patrol supervisors.

Officer Pohlable has been treated and released from the hospital, he is recovering at home.

Officers suspect Catlett may have suffered a medical condition prior to the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
